Sandip Patel was convicted of the murder of 39-year-old Marina Koppel.
He stabbed her at her flat at York Mansions, Chiltern Street, Marylebone on 7 August 1994.
He became a suspect during a cold case review in 2022 which matched his DNA to a hair that was discovered in 2008. The hair had been on a ring on her finger.
The police also connected him to a bloody footprint found at the scene.
Marina Koppel had been using the flat for her work as a masseuse and sex worker.
Her body was found by her husband who lived in Northampton after he went to her flat after she didn't answer her phone. When eh went in he found blood everywhere. She had been stabbed more than 140 times.
